As someone who has a deep affinity for tackling mutations, my primary focus before this expansion was centered around them, particularly M10 mutations. I’d like to clarify that my concerns regarding M3 mutations have nothing to do with their difficulty level; I believe they are currently well-tuned in that regard.
The problem lies in the lack of incentive to run M3 mutations beyond a handful of mount drops. BoE gear is rarely obtained, and the overall loot from M3 mutations is rather underwhelming.
In the past, M10 mutations were a prime source for top-tier gear, such as the Avenger set in Lazarus. However, now, it’s possible to farm Azoth gear in M1 and M2, re-roll it, and essentially acquire best-in-slot gear. M10 mutations used to provide high-quality BoE gear that could be sold for substantial amounts of gold, which was a significant part of how I played the game. I would farm this gear and consistently reach the gold cap. Unfortunately, this aspect has disappeared.
With Umbral shards removed and M3 mutations offering minimal Dark Matter, there seems to be little point in running them, aside from seeking a mount or a greater challenge.
To reinvigorate interest in M3 mutations, we may require an increase in BoE drops at item level 700, a boost in Dark Matter yields, or some other incentive to make running M3 mutations worthwhile. Even if Azoth gear were exclusive to M3 mutations, it could be a significant motivator.
While I’m still enjoying New World and have found alternative ways to savor the game, the experience isn’t quite the same for dedicated mutation enthusiasts.
What are your thoughts on this matter?
For similar reasons as mentioned by the original poster, I haven’t found much motivation to tackle M3 mutations. I used to tackle M10s, and my DPS set stands at 699. Nevertheless, I’m content running M2 mutations. The loot remains satisfying, the Dark Matter is substantial, and it’s suitable for artifact farming without having to grapple with the tier 3 elemental mechanics.
I find the idea of additional BoE gear drops from M3 to be intriguing, especially given that much of the gear elsewhere is bound on pickup. This could offer a unique advantage over other content.
However, I believe the introduction of Azoth inductors has fundamentally reshaped the gear market in ways that may not have been fully realized. This is evident from the listings I’ve seen on the trading post for gear priced at 250k, 300k New World Gold Coins, or even higher.
Gear is now unlikely to sell for more than the materials required for an inductor craft, plus a tip for the crafter. Consequently, this shift will impact the prices of all other gear, and farming BoE gear won’t be as lucrative as it once was, even with increased drops.
